Android tracking help

Give every route a fair chance to stay connected.

Android phones can pause location updates to save battery. A few settings can help PaceMint keep recording while your screen is off or the app is in the background.

Menu names vary by phone model and Android version. These steps improve tracking conditions but cannot guarantee an uninterrupted route.

  2. 02Precise accessPaceMint can use precise location.
  3. 03Background accessLocation stays available during an active track.

Setup priorities

What to change, and when

Required

Allow reliable location access

  • Turn on Android location services.
  • Allow PaceMint to use precise location.
  • Keep location permission available for the duration of an active background track.
  • Allow PaceMint to keep running in the background during an active track.
Diagnostic

Run one controlled test

  • Go outdoors with a clear view of the sky.
  • Record a short activity with the screen on.
  • Then repeat with the screen off.
  • If only the screen-off test breaks, review your phone's battery and background controls.
  • If problems persist, optionally test Android's Wi-Fi or Bluetooth scanning controls; this is troubleshooting, not a permanent requirement.

S

Samsung Galaxy

Keep PaceMint out of sleep lists

  1. Location: Settings → Apps → PaceMint → Permissions → Location. Enable precise location and the most permissive option available for an active track.
  2. Battery: Settings → Apps → PaceMint → Battery → Unrestricted.
  3. Sleeping apps: Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → Background usage limits. Remove PaceMint from Sleeping and Deep sleeping apps; add it to Never sleeping apps if available.
  4. While recording: Turn off Power saving and Adaptive power saving if available.
  5. If problems persist: Run one short outdoor test with the screen on and compare it with a screen-off test.

Samsung menu wording can differ between One UI versions.

H

Huawei

Allow launch and background activity

  1. Location: Settings → Apps → PaceMint → Permissions → Location. Enable precise location and background access where offered.
  2. App launch: Settings → Battery → App launch → PaceMint. Turn off automatic management, then allow Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background.
  3. Battery: Exclude PaceMint from power-intensive app cleanup or battery optimization when your model provides that option.
  4. While recording: Turn off Power Saving and Ultra Power Saving.

EMUI and HarmonyOS controls vary by device and region; use the closest matching labels.

O

OPPO

Permit background battery use

  1. Location: Settings → Apps → App management → PaceMint → Permissions → Location. Enable precise location and background access where offered.
  2. Battery: Settings → Battery → More settings → Optimize battery use → PaceMint → Don't optimize, or choose Allow background activity.
  3. Auto launch: In App management, allow PaceMint to auto launch if this control is present.
  4. While recording: Turn off Power Saving mode.

ColorOS menu paths change between releases. Search Settings for “PaceMint” or “battery optimization” if needed.

A

Pixel, Motorola, Xiaomi and others

Use the standard Android controls

  1. Location: Settings → Apps → PaceMint → Permissions → Location. Turn on precise location and allow access needed during an active track.
  2. Battery: Settings → Apps → PaceMint → App battery usage. Select Unrestricted or disable battery optimization.
  3. Manufacturer controls: Look for Auto-start, Background activity, Sleeping apps or App battery saver and allow PaceMint.
  4. While recording: Turn off system-wide Battery Saver.

Settings differ widely. Android's Settings search is often the fastest route to Location and Battery controls.

If gaps continue

What if my track still fails?

PaceMint can detect long location interruptions, implausible jumps or too few reliable samples. Activity Details may then show a tracking warning.

Review the warning

Open Activity Details to see whether PaceMint found a tracking-reliability issue.

Try a short test

Review the settings above, then record another short outdoor activity.

Diagnose persistent gaps

Compare screen-on and screen-off tests, then contact support with your phone model and Android version.

Changing these settings cannot repair location data that was not recorded, does not change PaceMint's validation rules, and does not guarantee that a future activity will qualify.

Common questions

Android tracking FAQ

Why does tracking change when my screen turns off?

Your phone may restrict location or background processing to save battery. Set PaceMint battery use to Unrestricted and check the manufacturer guide above.

Should I keep Battery Saver off all day?

No. Turning it off while recording is the useful test. You can turn it back on after your activity.

Why don't my menus match this guide?

Manufacturers rename and move controls between models and Android releases. Search Settings for PaceMint, Location, Battery optimization, Background activity or Sleeping apps.

Will these settings guarantee that every activity is valid?

No. They improve the conditions for location recording. PaceMint still applies its normal activity and eligibility checks.

What should I try if the route still has gaps?

Restart your phone, check for system updates, repeat the short outdoor diagnostic, and contact support with your phone model and Android version if the issue continues.

Ready for a test?

Make the changes before you start.

Then record a short outdoor activity and compare the route.
